When you go to the movies, you expect to be entertained. Most of all, if it’s a three long hour flick, like most action/hero/fantasy films are this days.
The plot has to make sense, with high, mid and low peaks integrated in a way that they doesn’t lose the audience attention.
That’s why Captain America: Civil War got so many good reviews, including the Rotten Tomatoes ranking.
Opposite to the Batman V Superman and the latest X-Men films fiasco, this story is good and entertaining as Deadpool or if you go further in time, like The Dark Knight was.
So, with that in mind, go and watch it. Now I’m going to get to the SPOILER’s pool, so you’ve been warned.
Marvel did a campaign, since the announcement that the third Cap movie was going to be based in the comic Civil War that probably some awful outcome was in the making. In the whole Cap vs. Iron Man fight.
They sold it pretty well, you get that feeling on all the trailers. Though a really quick feeling, it’s like something itchy that you can’t get off. Maybe one of the two titans is going to get killed.
In fact, on the Civil War comics, the Cap dies at the end. So that’s the major worry we all had before watching this flick.
On this movie, the main plot is that The Avengers had left a big number of casualties while saving the world, human innocent ones. They’re not as loved as everyone thinks, kinda of a Watchmen feel to it.
The first sequence of this movie, involves the Cap leading a team to prevent a terrorist attack somewhere in Africa and as a result, innocent people die.
After the events in Age of Ultron, things weren’t good for the crew, but with this, everything goes south.
Also we have a Tony Stark with a guilty conscience after what happens and no Pepper Pots on the picture. So…
The UN decides to take measures along with the CIA, Homeland Security and the US Secretary of State. Thus involved for the Avengers to sign an agreement to be supervised by this entity and controlled. Iron Man wants to do it and the Cap doesn’t.
He thinks that giving world leaders the Avengers as a plush toy or a weapon of massive destruction it could lead to major catastrophes, and he’s right.
That’s when a bomb is triggered on the UN headquarters and the Winter Soldier is pointed out to be the perpetrator.
All what happens next, is simply brilliant.
I have to applaud Marvel Studios and Disney, for taking a turn to the right corner. The villain (brilliant Daniel Brühl), is actually a victim with a vengeance.
And it’s a fair turn of events, not a supervillain from another world, a victim of the Avenger’s recklessness.
You cannot see that coming, actually, you think he’s a HYDRA agent or something, trying to end the world or whateva. Really well done.
Another highlight of this awesome film is the introducing part, here we have a new Spiderman and Black Panther.
This is actually the original Spidey from the comics, a kid, really funny and talkative, with Marissa Tomei as aunt May. It left you wanting more and you’ll get it, new Spidey movies coming and a brand new start.
Black Panther on the other hand is simply gorgeously done, a real African King fighting like a feline, amazing.
The fighting scenes in general are over the top, 80% of the movie are this sequences and we’re thankful for that. Brilliant tech script and camera shots.
Though the thing I could criticize is the lack of female characters, for like ten male superheroes, there’s only two or three women. And that’s wrong, Marvel is filled with female characters. They might be solving this with the upcoming Ms. Marvel franchise.
As a conclusion, they took it out of the park with this one. Way better than Age of Ultron and other of the Avengers solo movies.
The thing that I loved the most is the unexpected ending, no one dies. Even though I thought Iron Man almost did. War Machine doesn’t die either. The Cap go rogue, free the Avengers that the UN took, Iron Man maintains his cover facing the UN, though I think he’s actually on the Caps side. And this set the field for the Infinity Wars storyline.
Seriously, I want to watch this movie over and over again, a cheer to Disney for vindicating the mess they did with Star Wars.
