Films

Superman: Legacy

General Synopsis: The start of the DCU but not an origin story for Superman. The film will follow the younger days of Clark Kent as he balances his “Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.” James Gunn is writing the script for Superman: Legacy and Peter Safran hopes Gunn will direct too. That role is yet to be officially decided though. A separate Superman movie produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Ta-Nehsi Coates remains in development and will exist under the DC Elseworlds banner should it move forward. Superman: Legacy will lead into the next DCU film, The Authority.

Release Date: July 11, 2025

The Authority

General Synopsis: The second film in the DCU is the cinematic introduction of The Authority, a team of superheroes with a less-than-idealistic approach to saving the world. The team was first introduced under the Wildstorm imprint at DC Comics in 1999 by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and was later folded into the main DC Universe during the New 52 initiative in 2011. The team is mainly composed of characters from Ellis’ other team named Stormwatch. The Authority will explore the gray morality of crime-fighting when questionable heroes take up crime-fighting. The film is currently being written by a mystery writer.

The Brave and the Bold

General Synopsis: The Brave and the Bold will introduce the Bat Family to the DCU. The film will focus on Batman’s relationship with Robin, who will be the fifth incarnation of the character Damien Wayne instead of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, or Jason Todd. This will feature a new iteration of Batman entirely separate from Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck’s take on the character. James Gunn and Peter Safran say Damien Wayne is their favorite version of Robin, calling him an “assassin” and “a little son of a bitch.”The Brave and the Bold is said to be heavily inspired by Grant Morrison’s prolific comic run on the caped crusader as well as Tom King’s, focusing on Bruce and Damien’s father-son dynamics. The Brave and the Bold will lead into the next DCU film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

General Synopsis: The next solo film of Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on Tom King’s comic run of the same name from 2021 and 2022. It’s currently unknown if this film will feature the same version of the character played by Sasha Calle in The Flash. James Gunn describes this version of Supergirl as “much more hardcore” and is supposed to contrast with the new version of Superman that will be introduced in the DCU.

Swamp Thing

General Synopsis: The next attempt to bring Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing to the big screen. Swamp Thing is said to dive deeper into horror than any other DCU project as fans explore the origins of the titular character, although the character is still planned to interact with the other regular heroes of the DCU since this “mashup quality” proved to work well for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Batman – Part II (Elseworlds)

General Synopsis: The much-anticipated sequel to The Batman. Matt Reeves will once again direct and is currently writing the script.

HBO Max Shows

Creature Commandos

General Synopsis: A show based on the 1980s comic team of military superhumans, including a Vampire, Werewolf, and Frankenstein’s Monster, who fight nazis in World War II. The DCU adaptation will take a different approach though, as Weasel from The Suicide Squad, Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Rick Flag’s father, Rick Flag Sr., now make up the titular team. This will be the DCU’s first animated series and is already in production. Every episode is written by James Gunn and some major characters are teased to also appear in live-action later down the line in the DCU and will be portrayed by the same actors.

Waller

General Synopsis: A spin-off series following the mysterious schemes of Amanda Waller following the events of Peacemaker. Season 2 of Peacemaker has been put on hold due to James Gunn’s focus on Superman: Legacy and Waller setting the stage for the DCU. Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller as well as other unnamed players of “team Peacemaker.” Both Creature Commandos and Waller are expected to debut before Superman: Legacy. Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver will exectuive produce Waller with Christal Henry (Watchmen) writing.

Paradise Lost

General Synopsis: A Game of Thrones-inspired fantasy series set on Themyscira long before the birth of Wonder Woman. The show will tell the origin of the Amazon’s all-female culture and society.

Booster Gold

General Synopsis: The small screen DCU introduction of the self-absorbed and time-traveling hero from the future Michael Jon Carter aka Booster Gold first introduced to DC Comics by writer Dan Jurgens in 1986. The series is described to be a comedy as Gunn describes the character like “imposter syndrome as a superhero.”

Lanterns

General Synopsis: A Green Lantern detective-like mystery series featuring both Hal Jordan and John Stweart. The two titular heroes will investigate a mystery that will tie into the larger DCU story seen in the films. The main inspiration for the series is said to be True Detective with it aiming to be “a huge HBO-quality event.” This project has officially replaced the Green Lantern HBO Max show that was being developed by Greg Berlanti.

El drama original de HBO de diez episodios HOUSE OF THE DRAGON se estrena el domingo 21 de agosto en HBO Max y HBO. 

Basada en el libro “Fuego y Sangre” de George R.R. Martin, la serie, ambientada 200 años antes de los acontecimientos de JUEGO DE TRONOS, cuenta la historia de la Casa Targaryen. 

El elenco principal esta conformado por Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel y Rhys Ifans.

DESCRIPCIÓN DE LOS PERSONAJES

Paddy Considine como el Rey Viserys Targaryen – elegido por los señores de Westeros como sucesor al Viejo Rey, Jaehaerys Targaryen, en el Gran Consejo de Harrenhal.  Un hombre cálido, amable y decente, Viserys sólo desea continuar con el legado de su abuelo. Pero los buenos hombres no son necesariamente grandes reyes.

Matt Smith como el Príncipe Daemon Targaryen – hermano menor del Rey Viserys y heredero al trono. Un guerrero sin igual y un jinete de dragón, Daemon posee la verdadera sangre del dragón.  Pero se dice que cada vez que nace un Targaryen, los dioses lanzan una moneda al aire…

Olivia Cooke como Alicent Hightower – hija de Otto Hightower, la Mano del Rey, y la mujer más atractiva de los Siete Reinos. Se crió en la Fortaleza Roja, cerca del rey y de su círculo más íntimo; posee tanto una gracia cortesana como una aguda perspicacia política. 

Emma D’Arcy como la princesa Rhaenyra Targaryen – la primogénita del rey, es de pura sangre valyria y es jinete de dragones, quien deberá afrontar un difícil desafio.

Steve Toussaint como Lord Corlys Velaryon, “La serpiente de mar” – Señor de la Casa Velaryon, un linaje valyrio tan antiguo como la Casa Targaryen. Como “La Serpiente del Mar”, el más afamado aventurero náutico de la historia de Westeros, Lord Corlys construyó su casa hasta convertirla en un poderoso asentamiento que es incluso más rico que los Lannister y que reclama la armada más grande del mundo. 

Eve Best como la princesa Rhaenys Targaryen – jinete de dragones y esposa de Lord Corlys Velaryon, “La reina que nunca fue” fue descartada como heredera al trono en el Gran Consejo porque el reino favoreció a su primo, Viserys, simplemente por ser hombre. 

Fabien Frankel como Ser Criston Cole – de ascendencia dorniense, hijo común del mayordomo del Señor de Blackhaven.  Cole no tiene derecho a tierras o títulos; todo lo que tiene a su nombre es su honor y su habilidad preternatural con la espada.

Sonoya Mizuno como Mysaria – que llegó a Westeros sin nada, vendida más veces de las que puede recordar.  Podría haberse marchitado… pero en lugar de eso se levantó para convertirse en la aliada más fiable -y más improbable- del príncipe Daemon Targaryen, el heredero del trono.

Rhys Ifans como Otto Hightower – Ser Otto, la Mano del Rey, sirve leal y fielmente a su rey y a su reino. Según la Mano, la mayor amenaza para el reino es el hermano del rey, Daemon, y su posición como heredero al trono.

La comedia romántica con un toque de ciencia ficción MOONSHOT, también llegará a la plataforma.Además, el sello productor de WarnerMedia Particular Crowd complementa la oferta con películas Max Originals. Llega FALLING FOR FIGARO  una comedia romántica ambientada en el competitivo mundo de la ópera. El juego se hace presente con GATLOPP: HELL OF A GAME, una comedia donde un juego muy particular destapa los deseos más oscuros de un grupo de amigos. Y para terminar,  BULL  traerá una historia de venganza y redención en el mundo del crimen organizado inglésEn el marco de DEL CINE A TU CASA estarán en la plataforma, en exclusiva, las películas de Warner Bros solamente 45 días después del estreno en salas de cine. Este acuerdo sin precedentes a nivel global, traerá a la plataforma grandes títulos como BATMAN, ELVIS, DC LIGA DE SUPERMASCOTAS, ANIMALES FANTÁSTICOS: LOS SECRETOS DE DUMBLEDORE y tantas otras.   Desde Latinoamérica esta oferta se complementa con el acuerdo con uno de los principales sellos cinematográficos, Sony. Otros dos ansiados regresos para los amantes de la ciencia ficción y los mundos fantásticos. La cuarta temporada de la ya serie de culto WESTWORLD, y la tercera temporada de HIS DARK MATERIALS, serie basada en los libros homónimos de Philip Pullman.El mundo de las series de DC se expande cada vez más. A las nuevas temporadas de Superman and Lois y Batwoman ya se ha sumado una nueva heroína, NAOMI. Y muy pronto regresa la banda favorita de superhéroes inadaptados en la cuarta temporada de DOOM PATROL. En un universo totalmente diferente pero también basado en una novela gráfica de DC, llegará DMZ, nueva serie protagonizada por Rosario Dawson y Benjamin Pratt. Se trata de una historia ambientada en un futuro cercano en el que una Segunda Guerra Civil Americana ha convertido la isla de Manhattan en una particular zona desmilitarizada. Además, tendremos el regreso de Cassie Bowden, la azafata interpretada por Kaley Cuoco regresa en THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT para intentar llevar una vida normal y por supuesto terminar en el centro de una intriga internacional. Esta segunda temporada de la multipremiada serie sumará una estrella de lujo: Sharon Stone. Las entrañables comediantes interpretadas por Jean Smart y Hannah Einbinder regresan en una nueva temporada de HACKS, la serie que ha conquistado múltiples premios y elogios de la crítica. Finalmente llega la nueva temporada de BARRY, donde veremos esta historia de desesperación por dejar atrás de una vez por todas el mundo de los asesinatos por encargo y dedicarse de lleno a la actuación, su nueva pasión.En este 2022 también vuelven los dos personajes que han revolucionado el mundo de la animación, RICK & MORTY. En su sexta temporada continuarán desafiando todos los límites de la comedia adulta. Es un regreso que será muy celebrado por un fandom enorme a nivel global, pero que especialmente en la región no para de crecer.Sin dudas, un género que sigue sumando audiencias en todo el mundo es el true crime. En ese terreno llegan dos series muy esperadas. THE STAIRCASE protagonizada por el talentoso Colin Firth,  como un escritor de novelas policiacas, acusado de matar a su esposa quien es encontrada muerta al pie de una escalera en la casa que compartían. Toni Collette y Sophie Turner se suman a este increíble reparto. Y LOVE & DEATH, producida por David E. Kelley y Nicole Kidman e inspirada en la historia verdadera de una ama de casa suburbana que termina asesinando con un hacha a su mejor amiga. Una serie muy especial es la recientemente estrenada MINX, protagonizada por Jake Johnson y Ophelia Lovibond quienes juntos trabajarán para lanzar en los 70  la primera revista erótica con una mirada femenina. JULIA es el título de la serie que en el segundo trimestre nos llevará a recorrer la vida de la reconocida maestra de cocina y presentadora de televisión Julia Child. IRMA VEP, Olivier Assayas vuelve a recrear el personaje esta vez en formato serie y nada menos que de la mano de Alicia Vikander, como una estrella de cine estadounidense que viaja a Francia para protagonizar una remake muy tensa y problemática. El genial showrunner escocés Steven Moffat trae un drama romántico, THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE basado en la novela homónima y que sigue una historia de amor con una pequeña complicación: los constantes viajes en el tiempo de su protagonista. Often a predictor of the annual Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the Annie Awards™ honor overall excellence as well as individual achievement in a total of 36 categories ranging from best feature, best feature independent, production design, character animation, and effects animation to storyboarding, writing, music, editing and voice acting. Entries submitted for consideration were from productions that originally aired, were exhibited in an animation festival or commercially released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.

Created in 1972 by veteran voice talent June Foray, the Annie Awards™ have grown in scope and stature for nearly five decades. 

VIP Guests and Presenters – Presenters include Tom Kenny, Guillermo Del Toro, Diane Warren, Tomm Moore, Ross Stewart, Mamoru Hosoda, Charlie Saxton, Pierre Perffiel and Lilly Singh.

The Winsor McCay Award for career contributions to the art of animation are being presented to three recipients – Ruben Aquino, legendary Disney 

animator; Lillian Schwartz, computer animation pioneer; and Toshio Suzuki, prolific Studio Ghibli producer.

The June Foray Award for significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation will be awarded to Renzo & Sayoko Kinoshita, influential animation filmmakers and founders of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival.

The Ub Iwerks Award for technical advancement that has made a significant impact on the art and industry of animation will be presented to Python Foundation, promoting, protecting and advancing the open-source Python programming language, and facilitating the growth of the diverse Python community.

The Special Achievement Award recognizing the unique and significant impact on the art and industry of animation will be presented to Glen Vilppu, artist and author internationally known for teaching and training animation professionals.

The Certificate of Merit for service to the art and industry will be presented to Evan Vernon.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” LEAD FILM NOMINATIONS

“EVIL” AND “MIDNIGHT MASS” LEAD WITH MOST TV NODS

Winners to be Announced on March 17

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced today the nominees for the 2^nd Annual Critics Choice Super Awards, honoring the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, and Action. Winners will be revealed on Thursday, March 17.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” lead this year’s film nominations, with five nods apiece including Best Superhero Movie. Both Tony Leung and Simu Liu garnered Best Actor in a Superhero Movie nods for their performances in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” while Michelle Yeoh is up for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie, and Tony Leung could also take home the award for Best Villain in a Movie. The cast of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” also earned top acting nods, with both Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield recognized with Best Actor in a Superhero Movie nominations. Additionally, Zendaya is up for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie, and Willem Dafoe could take home the trophy for Best Villain in a Movie.

“Evil” and “Midnight Mass” tied for the most television nominations, with each earning six nods including Best Horror Series. Mike Colter and Aasif Mandvi from “Evil” garnered nominations for Best Actor in a Horror Series, while Katja Herbers and Christine Lahti are vying for Best Actress in a Horror Series, and Michael Emerson earned a nod for Best Villain in a Series. Meanwhile, “Midnight Mass” also has two actors, Zach Gilford and Hamish Linklater, competing in the category of Best Actor in a Horror Series. Both Kate Siegel and Samantha Sloyan are up for Best Actress in a Horror Series, and Sloyan was also nominated for Best Villain in a Series.
