Well, it’s fair to say that no one was happy with this episode, “The Battle of Winterfell” (The Long Night).
The supposedly greatest battle of all time
was a PG-13 big disappointment for all.
First, the cinematography was awful, no
matter how HD was your TV, you could not see thing and they had the brilliant
idea of also throw fog on it.
It’s almost unbelievable that this much
character’s survived. It was extremely violent, even so, the walkers managed to
almost eat an entire meal on Winterfell’s kitchen so:
-How can you explain Ser Davos surviving?
-Grey Worm?
-Tarly?! All useless being attacked by a
hand full of walkers.
It is most believable that Jaime survived
with one hand than these people I’ve mentioned.
They survived; but Theon, Jorah, Dondarrion,
Tollet and Lyanna didn’t.
Really HBO? You make an unrealistic list of
survivors to a huge massacre that we were losing and manage to kill a little
girl smashed by a giant? It is somewhat disgusting.
We are all being so harsh with the Battle
of Winterfell because they made a huge build up for this one and it failed to
deliver in every single corner.
The only satisfying thing in the whole
episode was Arya Stark, for obvious reasons. Let us hope Daenerys stops saying “we
won”, nobody did nothing, Arya won the battle for everyone, while Jon was
screaming to the dragon.
Let’s hope they build Arya a monument, if
it was Jon who killed the Night King, the surely will.
Well, it is fair to say that actually happened what I predicted a month ago, the Night King was going to be finished on the third episode. But without any explanation of his storyline, the build up with him since season one is almost laughable at this point.
And is kinda ridiculous his arrogance since we don’t know really who he is and why the sadism.
Yes, it appears so. As stated before he
seems to be Missing in Action. He cannot be seen on the White Walkers lines as
they arrived to Winterfell on the second episode’s end. Not even flying with
Viserion.
Where is he?
Well, there is an interesting theory: This
battle is a decoy, for him to ride south to Kings Landing while Jon is fighting
in the North.
This theory goes very well with the fact that
there has been two premonitions on this matter:
One: Danny’s on the House of the Undying arriving to a snowy Throne. This could be seen as winter arrived to King’s Landing.
Two: Bran had a vision of a Dragon’s shadow flying over Kings Landing. At the time, we thought it was Drogon as usual leading the way, but this could mean something entirely different, like Viserion arriving with the Night King.
I’m almost sure that this is what’s happening
since is the thing that makes most sense of all, it is boring to think that
they all die in the North while Cersei is chilling with her troops down South.
I think she is taken by surprise, almost loses
all her forces and escapes, later to find herself in the midst of the ones that
survives the Winterfell battle.
It makes the story better at its core. Now there
is a fight for the Throne between the Night King, Cersei, Daenerys and maybe
Jon (Aegon).
I have more theories at this end, but for now, let
us stick to this one. He is going south and he does not care for Valar
Morghulis.
That is the big question since the battle
against the Night King approaches.
Since last night second episode “A Knight of
the Seven Kingdoms”, it became clearer who will probably won’t survive the
third one.
Here’s a list of who we think won’t make it:
JAIME LANNISTER:it has become really obvious that the way to redemption for Jaime is to die fighting for the North. This episode didn’t take anything for granted and pretty much served this theory on a silver platter. “Redemption Song” singed by Johnny Cash is a song that comes to mind while watching Jamie in this episode, since he arrives on trial by Daenerys until he knighted Brienne. This might be the King Slayer final moments.
THEON GREYJOY:Another one who will fall bravely on Winterfell. This is almost a given, since he wants to die for the Starks honorably and also he’s pretty much exposed by being the one who will be protecting Bran, who’s the main target for the Night King.
JORAH MORMONT:He received Sam Tarly valyrian steel sword, he will die for Khaleesi wielding it. If not in this battle, soon and heroically, but it can be on this fight.
GREY WORM:He made one of the biggest mistakes on the show, making plans for a happier life post battle. He definitely will die fighting the death.
BERIC DONDARRION:Had a special moment with the Hound and Arya Stark, he will surely will not get back from the death when this battle is over.
In addition, there is our previous theories in which Arya dies on this battle, but I rather not hang on to this because I WON’T.
On the other hand, Daenerys has shown her true Mad Queen colors, when Sansa revealed that the North won’t have a foreign ruler and when she found out Jon’s real name is Aegon Targaryen, instant hate. However, for this, now I’m not sure it’s a pretty clever idea that she dies on this battle, it’ll be interesting to see her fighting for the Throne against Jon and Cersei.
GAME OF THRONE‘s Season 8 premiered this week with huge ratings and mixed reactions.
For my part I was very pleased, because I know (and pardon my English), that shit’s about to hit the fan.
Just by the looks of it, Cersei wants her both siblings killed. Moreover, that is light compared to what is coming.
The second part of our GOT Special is no longer a Podcast; it will be this piece, talking about the many theories that stills surround the ending.
We have already talked our Three Dragon Heads one; you can read it here in English or watch it here in Español:
In any case, there is plenty of theories, one regarding predictions of deaths and other ones centered in major plot twists.
Let us begin.
The One with Arya Killing Cersei:
Arya serves the Many Faced God, which is why for her is easy killing people by pretending to be someone else. If she wants to kill Cersei, she will have to be someone else. There is two versions of whom Arya will become for this task:
One is Cersei’s maiden Bernadette; she kind of fades into the background and was in seasons 2,3,4,6 and 7, in the last one she was the one who interrupted Jaime and Cersei on her chambers. It had little but major camera presence on this scene what leads to suspect that that might be a hint of one of the faces that Arya might wear.
The other and darker one is Jaime Lannister. It would be poetic but awful and I really hope they do not go there. In spite Jamie pushing Bran from the tower might lead to Arya wanting to kill him, he redeemed himself on the show in many ways and if Arya kills him for this, it’ll officially make her the villain and it’ll ruin her for us.
But still is a good chance, it’s the one that would really harmed Cersei, being mad but in love with him, excited that he’s back, mixed feelings and then “he” strikes and then she finds out that Jaime was dead all along.
This would fulfill in a way the prophecy that a sibling kills her. However, we know Jaime is not capable of doing so… it will be Arya with Jaime’s face.
Stating all that, even though we know Cersei deserves what is coming for her, she is pregnant and I do not know if that could change things in the end. We will have to wait and see.
The One with Bran being the Night King:
People on Reddit are obsessed with Bran being the Night King and it does not make any sense. In addition, Isaac, the actor who plays Bran, confirmed that he is not the Night King.
Leaving that behind, we do not have a background story for the Night King since he was created for the show and it doesn’t have anything to do with his version on the books. The only thing we know from the show’s Night King is that he was created by the children of the forest to protect them from the first men, and then they turned on them for unknown reasons, which led the children of the forest to join forces with the first men and push them to the other side of the wall.
We do not really know what their purpose to invade, what motivates them is. We only know that the Night King stares at Jon Snow, maybe it is a tiny reference of rivalry with the Starks (as in the books) or maybe something to do with Azor Ahai.
The One with Daenerys dying fighting the White Walkers:
When Dany was in the House of the Undying, she was presented with a premonition. She had to choose between the snowing Iron Throne or a door that led her beyond the Wall and into a tent where she found her dead husband Khal Drogo and their unborn child.
The Spider said, while staring Jon and Dani “nothing lasts”. This premonition could be interpreted that she backed off from the Throne and went to fight in the North with the Night King, where she is doomed to die and reunites with her death family.
It is an awful but realistic ending for her. Moreover, it is not only my idea; she is losing strength on the story while Jon gains momentum.
The One with Arya Fighting and Dying by the Night King’s hand:
I really, truly hate this theory. I think Arya and Tyrion should survive everything, kill the rest. Still… there is a chance that Arya is the only Stark sibling that dies on this battle, we can see her running frightened on the first trailer.
People are saying that she dies with needle on her hand and reincarnates on Nymeria. For my part, I say that she is the one that takes down the Ice Dragon; with the spear, she made Gendry make her. That’s why she gets the Night Kings fury and maybe dies at his hands, with Jon watching (it’ll be a tragedy, I hate it).
The One with the Seven Kingdoms being dissolved:
Jon, a.k.a. Aegon Targaryen, is the last Targaryen alive and true heir to the Iron Throne. With Daenerys dying, he could fulfil his destiny. However, Westeros will be very different after the war with the dead.
This could probably lead Jon to dissolve the Seven Kingdoms and dedicate only to rule his one; it will be smaller kingdoms again.
Probably Tyrion survives the war and is by the ruler’s side advising, as the last of the Lannister alive.
There are more theories, one is that Sam Tarly survives and writes the Songs of Ice & Fire, Sansa survives the war as the Queen in the North and many more. Nevertheless, the ones I have stated, are the ones that could kill us all of a heart attack.
That is why I keep saying; enjoy the first episode, which was fun and playful.
