GAME OF THRONES- HOW WILL IT END?

GAME OF THRONE‘s Season 8 premiered this week with huge ratings and mixed reactions.

For my part I was very pleased, because I know (and pardon my English), that shit’s about to hit the fan.

Just by the looks of it, Cersei wants her both siblings killed. Moreover, that is light compared to what is coming.

The second part of our GOT Special is no longer a Podcast; it will be this piece, talking about the many theories that stills surround the ending.

In any case, there is plenty of theories, one regarding predictions of deaths and other ones centered in major plot twists.

Let us begin.

The One with Arya Killing Cersei:

Arya serves the Many Faced God, which is why for her is easy killing people by pretending to be someone else. If she wants to kill Cersei, she will have to be someone else. There is two versions of whom Arya will become for this task:

One is Cersei’s maiden Bernadette; she kind of fades into the background and was in seasons 2,3,4,6 and 7, in the last one she was the one who interrupted Jaime and Cersei on her chambers. It had little but major camera presence on this scene what leads to suspect that that might be a hint of one of the faces that Arya might wear.

The other and darker one is Jaime Lannister. It would be poetic but awful and I really hope they do not go there. In spite Jamie pushing Bran from the tower might lead to Arya wanting to kill him, he redeemed himself on the show in many ways and if Arya kills him for this, it’ll officially make her the villain and it’ll ruin her for us.

But still is a good chance, it’s the one that would really harmed Cersei, being mad but in love with him, excited that he’s back, mixed feelings and then “he” strikes and then she finds out that Jaime was dead all along.

This would fulfill in a way the prophecy that a sibling kills her. However, we know Jaime is not capable of doing so… it will be Arya with Jaime’s face.

Stating all that, even though we know Cersei deserves what is coming for her, she is pregnant and I do not know if that could change things in the end. We will have to wait and see.

The One with Bran being the Night King:

People on Reddit are obsessed with Bran being the Night King and it does not make any sense. In addition, Isaac, the actor who plays Bran, confirmed that he is not the Night King.

Leaving that behind, we do not have a background story for the Night King since he was created for the show and it doesn’t have anything to do with his version on the books. The only thing we know from the show’s Night King is that he was created by the children of the forest to protect them from the first men, and then they turned on them for unknown reasons, which led the children of the forest to join forces with the first men and push them to the other side of the wall.

We do not really know what their purpose to invade, what motivates them is. We only know that the Night King stares at Jon Snow, maybe it is a tiny reference of rivalry with the Starks (as in the books) or maybe something to do with Azor Ahai.

The One with Daenerys dying fighting the White Walkers:

When Dany was in the House of the Undying, she was presented with a premonition. She had to choose between the snowing Iron Throne or a door that led her beyond the Wall and into a tent where she found her dead husband Khal Drogo and their unborn child.

The Spider said, while staring Jon and Dani “nothing lasts”. This premonition could be interpreted that she backed off from the Throne and went to fight in the North with the Night King, where she is doomed to die and reunites with her death family.

It is an awful but realistic ending for her. Moreover, it is not only my idea; she is losing strength on the story while Jon gains momentum.

The One with Arya Fighting and Dying by the Night King’s hand:

I really, truly hate this theory. I think Arya and Tyrion should survive everything, kill the rest. Still… there is a chance that Arya is the only Stark sibling that dies on this battle, we can see her running frightened on the first trailer.

People are saying that she dies with needle on her hand and reincarnates on Nymeria. For my part, I say that she is the one that takes down the Ice Dragon; with the spear, she made Gendry make her. That’s why she gets the Night Kings fury and maybe dies at his hands, with Jon watching (it’ll be a tragedy, I hate it).

The One with the Seven Kingdoms being dissolved:

Jon, a.k.a. Aegon Targaryen, is the last Targaryen alive and true heir to the Iron Throne. With Daenerys dying, he could fulfil his destiny. However, Westeros will be very different after the war with the dead.

This could probably lead Jon to dissolve the Seven Kingdoms and dedicate only to rule his one; it will be smaller kingdoms again.

Probably Tyrion survives the war and is by the ruler’s side advising, as the last of the Lannister alive.

There are more theories, one is that Sam Tarly survives and writes the Songs of Ice & Fire, Sansa survives the war as the Queen in the North and many more. Nevertheless, the ones I have stated, are the ones that could kill us all of a heart attack.

That is why I keep saying; enjoy the first episode, which was fun and playful.

GAME OF THRONES- El final de Tyrion Lannister

Anoche estreno el octavo episodio de la cuarta temporada de Game of Thrones, “The Mountain and the Viper”.

Como era de esperarse el juicio por combate para salvar la vida de Tyrion Lannister iba a ser algo en lo que, David Benioff y D.B. Weiss iban a tomar una decisión drástica y definitoria para el show.

La conclusión de este episodio nos lleva al análisis de lo que es buena y mala televisión, la delgada línea que los separa, así que si aun no viste la octava entrega, no sigas leyendo ya que hay varios SPOILERS.

Por más de que ya estamos familiarizados con el hecho de que George R. Martin no cree en el concepto de “empatizar con personajes”, es algo que por más que quieras evitar, cuando escribes un buen libro de ficción o un guión, lo logras.

Esto le ocurre a los seguidores de Game of Thrones que vieron al emblemático personaje Tyrion Lannister, interpretado por Peter Dinklage, desde que apareció en el primer episodio de la serie rodeado de prostitutas.

Hemos visto al enano querido por todos los fans, pero irrespetado de maneras exageradas en la serie. Ha sido un declive desde la tercera temporada para este personaje, si bien ya venía sufriendo desde el principio.

Desde que su padre no lo quiere, hasta que su hermana Cersei apunto el dedo hacia el cuando el Rey Jeoffrey murió envenenado en plenas nupcias. Acá empieza el juicio a Tyrion, lo que parece a la vista de todos un “dead man walking”.

Se puede decir que las escenas más contundentes en cuanto a diálogo y actuación, las tiene Tyrion esta temporada. Par de momentos cargados de emoción con su hermano Jaime, cuando Oberyn Martell se le ofrece como campeón y por supuesto, el discurso en el juicio.

La pelea definitoria en este octavo episodio, entre un vengativo Oberyn Martell y un gigante de hierro al que no le importo torturar a su hermano, The Mountain, llega a una conclusión que los seguidores de este show no querian, la muerte de Tyrion Lannister.

Oberyn a pesar de haber dominado con velocidad toda la contienda contra Gregor Clegane, al final por su arrogancia y sed de venganza, termina en el suelo con el cráneo aplastado.

Nos mantuvimos como expectadores bastante inocentes durante toda la serie, pensamos que la muerte más violenta fue la de Ned Stark, luego creíamos concluír que la más violenta fue la boda roja con Robb Stark y su madre, posteriormente nos superó lo gráfico y agresivo que fue el envenenamiento de Jeoffrey, todo esto hasta que The Mountain confesandole a Oberyn que efectivamente asesinó a sus sobrinos, violó a su hermana y posteriormente le aplasto el cráneo, mientras se lo hacía a este, concluímos que ha sido la muerte más violenta hasta ahora en la serie.

Pero una muerte en ficción no solo se considera violenta por lo gráfica que resulte, en esta oportunidad es el desgarro que pueda causar en la audiencia, todos los fans de Game of Thrones sufrieron desmedidamente con la masacre de la boda roja. Fue increíblemente sorpresiva y emocional, algo que podía tumbarte y dejarte deprimido varias semanas. Y aun así, esto no se compara con el hecho de que decapiten a Tyrion Lannister.

Si bien se sabe que la premisa de este show es no perdonar a nadie, hay leyes de la ficción que no se pueden romper, tanto como leyes de la física. No puedes llevar una historia épica, por más realista que sea, sin identificar un héroe o una definición aproximada del mismo. Dentro de este tipo de historias, un héroe con el que se identifica la audiencia, es simplemente un personaje fiel a sus creencias y ética, que busca hacer el bien y que intenta en lo posible, no caer en provocaciones que lo saquen de su camino.

El primer héroe en Game of Thrones fue Ned Stark, posteriormente lo siguió Robb Stark, a pesar de haber tomado decisiones apresuradas sin pensar en las consecuencias. Aunque si nos ponemos a analizar con mayor profundidad, Robb no cubría como su padre lo necesario para ser identificado como un héroe. Los héroes no toman decisiones egoístas que pueden traer como consecuencia la muerte de muchos, esto fue lo que logró al romper su compromiso con Walder Frey.

Lo siguiente que se le aproxima a este concepto es Jon Snow, pero nuevamente caemos en lo mismo, Snow rompió sus votos sagrados con The Night’s Watch al acostarse con Ygritte y con eso desató una furia con venganza innecesaria que no le servirá de aliado para salvar a sus compañeros en la pared. Daenerys Targaryen, la reina dragón, se le puede acercar más al concepto de héroe por todo lo que ha logrado en cuatro temporadas, si quisieramos obviar la premisa de que ella se considera con derecho nato de reinar en Westeros siendo la hija del rey loco que quemaba niños inocentes con wildfire, sabiendo esto, su reclamo al trono deberia darle un poco de vergüenza teniendo esta premisa, lo que le quita un poco el matiz de “héroe”.

Todo este análisis nos lleva a concluír que el segundo héroe de Game of Thrones realmente es Tyrion Lannister. Una persona victimizada desde pequeño, rechazado por su familia y todo el que lo rodea. Con verdaderas razones para ser resentido y vengativo, todas le hicieron al Imp y aun así se mantuvo con la cabeza en alto, no permitió que su padre lo terminara de pisar bajo el sacrificio de su hermano Jaime y el reconocimiento de un crimen que no cometió. Hasta mejor que Ned Stark, que a pesar de su honor, antes de ser decapitado se reconoció traidor, así que murió sin honor y sobre una mentira, a último minuto se doblego, lo que hizo que el Norte ardiera.

Tyrion no solo es todo esto, sino es el personaje más querido de la serie. Estas son leyes de la física que si demuestran algún criterio y recato sus creadores, no la van a romper. No se puede morir Tyrion Lannister en el noveno episodio de la temporada, solo porque tienen la costumbre de que en este episodio siempre hacen algo radical que cambia completamente el juego. Con esto lo que van a lograr es que en Westeros no ocurra ningún cambio, porque realmente nada se altera en la serie porque muera Tyrion, pero si van a lograr dar un golpe violento a la audiencia, que en última instancia no lo va a aceptar.

Entonces nos queda ver, ya que hablamos de la serie y no los libros, si en última instancia Jaime Lannister logra tomar una decisión drástica y arriesgar su vida para salvar a su hermano, después de todo saltó a la trampa del oso con una sola mano por Brienne. Así esto le implique que los persiga no solo la furia de Tywin Lannister por haber abandonado su puesto en Casterly Rock, sino también la ira implacable de Cersei.

 Como lo explique al inicio del artículo, la muerte de Tyrion Lannister es algo que simplemente no se puede manejar, entonces decidi leer que es lo que ocurre con el personaje en el libro. He aquí la versión del libro:

“Condenado a muerte, Tyrion es liberado de las mazmorras por Jaime Lannister y un renuente Varys. Durante su escape, Jaime le confiesa que Tysha era en verdad una campesina y que le mintió por orden de su padre. Tyrion lo toma como una traición imperdonable y abandona a su hermano, prometiendo venganza. Mientras sigue a Varys por los pasadizos de la Fortaleza Roja, le obliga a indicarle como llegar a las estancias de la Mano. Al entrar en las habitaciones de su padre, encuentra a Shae desnuda y adornada sólo con la cadena de la Mano. La estrangula con la misma cadena y confronta a su padre, al que encuentra en el retrete. Le dispara con una ballesta y lo mata. Huye de la ciudad a través del Mar Angosto hacia un destino desconocido elegido por Varys. Luego de su escape, Cersei ofrece la recompensa del nombramiento de Señor a quien quiera que le entrege a Tyrion.”

Segun lo visto en la serie, Tyrion no parece un personaje construído para asesinar a su padre o a Shae. Tampoco suena que después que Jaime se arriesga para liberarlo, Tyrion lo traiciona y abandona a su hermano. Hasta ahora en lo que se ha escrito de los libros de Game of Thrones, Tyrion no ha muerto, no colocaré más spoilers de los libros ya que va totalmente en contra de la premisa del show. Pero honestamente si el personaje más importante de la serie no ha muerto en los libros, no deberían matarlo en el show, igual en el episodio 9 debe ocurrir algo drástico, que no sea solo el escape de Tyrion. Esperemos que se traduzca en la muerte de Tywin Lannister.
